Alchemy (with general trade skills)
Alchemy, for our purposes, is Chemistry, with a mix of mysticism and herbal lore. An alchemist is a master of combining ingredients (natural and man-made) to form a synergistic result.
Sample ingredients:
Minerals, elements, dirts and dusts from different areas, herbs, plants, waters/liquids, bodily fluids, metals, ores, etc.
Sample results:
- Potions and elixers: These are drinkable or edible items that grant the drinker certain bonuses. Sample bonuses would be health or stamina rejunivation, Mana rejuvination. All types of "buffs" such as strength, speed, and also to counter-act 'debuffs' that have been cast on you. Could also be lotions for invisibility, or non-scent.
- Vials: These are liquids or compounds that can be actively used against an enemy. When activated these could cause smoke, explosions, or flashes. Or, they could cause acidic burns, or more extreme damage, like shrinking, or perilizing.
- Poisons: Any form (drink, pill, powder) can be made. Once a poison is made, it's either disguised, (to look like food or drink) or it's applied to actual food, or a weapon of some sort. A common example would be applying to darts.
- Antidotes: Potions, foods, drinks, pills, or any other form. This is used to counteract any poisoning that has happened. Every poison will have an opposite antidote that completely cures the poison. However, every malady will have it's specific antidote. Thus, you can treat a poison by using the antidote, or curing the symptoms.
- Transmuting: Metals, whether formed or unrefined can be modified to have special properties. Whether this is just taking iron ore and turning it to steel, or taking a silver sword and converting it to Mithril. This can be done at different stages of the item creation for differing results. And alchemist will be able to transmute refined metals from one form to another. Or the alchemist can develope 'transmuting powders' for blacksmiths to use during the refining process. A sword with a perpetually poisoned blade would need that benefit put into it through the skills of an alchemist.
Process:
The process of Alchemy is identical to that of the all item creation.
- Once you have the skill, or wish to develope the skill, you must first find the recipe. The recipe will tell you what components you need, and it will explain the process of putting them together. It also becomes one of the required components.
-
All components must be gathered or created.
-
Then the process of creation is started. For simple items it's a matter of starting the build, and then waiting the appointed time. For complex items there may be a sequence of events necessary with new components added at subsequent stages. (Will be outlined in the recipe.)
-
Complex recipes are actually conglomerations of simple recipes. So, you could be the top level, or somewhere in the middle. After you have complete your recipe, you could be done, or you might need to take the result and use it as a component in a higher order recipe.
For example, Poison Steel Darts.
Create Iron to Steel Tranmuting powder. (recipe 1)
Create Steel from Iron Ore and powder. (recipe 2)
Create Darts from Steel. (recipe 3)
Create Poison liquid. (recipe 4)
Apply poison to darts. (recipe 5)
Parts 1-4 are substeps that must be complete before part 5 is possible.
